Our Team

Creative Energies' team of professionals is the lifeblood of our company. You'll find that most of us were trained at Solar Energy International and many of us are NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installers. We take our jobs seriously, but we also love to get outdoors as often as our schedules allow. Among us are several NOLS instructors, mountaineers, fishermen (and women) and an amateur pilot. When all is said and done, we share a passion for adventure and pride in a job well done.

  • Scott Kane

    Scott Kane is a co-founder and owner of Creative Energies and oversees our Wyoming office. Scott has been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Certified Solar PV Installer and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geology from St. Lawrence University. He was appointed to the Western Governors' Association's Clean and Diversified Energy Initiate's Solar Task Force and serves on the board of directors for the Wyoming Outdoor Council. As a Solar Energy International graduate, Scott frequently makes presentations on renewable energy technology and policy. He lives in Lander with his wife, Michelle Escudero, and daughter, Magdalena. He is an active endurance athlete and has been the first place Wyoming finisher in the Boston Marathon for the last two years. As a former instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Scott was honored as Instructor of the Year in 2000. more...

  • Toby Schmidt

    Toby Schmidt is a co-owner of Creative Energies and oversees our Salt Lake City office. Toby has been designing and installing solar electric systems for over 10 years. He is a Solar Energy International graduate and is working tword his electrical license. Toby is also tasked with ensuring the quality of Creative Energies installations and the safety and efficiency of our building process. Toby was the assistant director of Information Systems for the NOLS international headquarters in Lander, Wyoming and served as a building project supervisor for the NOLS Patagonia branch in Chile. He lives in Salt Lake with his wife, Natalie Kaplan, and is a Category Three bicycle racer. As a small plane pilot, Toby flies his Mooney M20E extensively for work and pleasure. more...

  • Andy Tyson

    Andy Tyson, co-founder and owner of Creative Energies, Andy oversees our Idaho Office. He has been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Certified Solar PV Installer. With training from Solar Energy International and Rainshadow solar, Andy has been designing and installing solar electric systems since 1999. He is versed in the USGBC LEED program, certified as a RESNET Home Performance Specialist and consults on energy efficient building projects. Andy is serving as the chairman of the Solar Task force for the Idaho Strategic Energy Alliance. He regularly volunteers with organizations in the region that are committed to encouraging smart and efficient energy use and serves as a board member of the Charture Institute and Teton Valley Community Recycling. He has had a long career as an international mountain guide and expedition leader, working with NOLS, Exum, Alpine Ascents, and Antarctic Logistics and Expeditions. He is a published author and lives with his wife Molly in their passive solar and solar electric home in Victor, Idaho. more...

  • Graham Chapek

    Graham started with Creative Energies in 2014. He enjoys his work which is currently focused on installing, permitting, and commissioning systems. Graham completed the Solar Program at Salt Lake Community College. Originally from Vermont, love for the outdoors, especially alpine skiing brought him West. After living and working for a couple years in Jackson Wyoming he moved to Salt Lake City with his Girlfriend Becky and their two dogs. In his spare time he enjoys spending time vegetable gardening, hiking, biking, canoeing and camping. more...

  • Rusty Cheney

    Rusty Cheney provides technical sales and marketing support in Idaho, as well as performing system design and drafting work. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Dartmouth College, and is thrilled to be pursuing a career aligned with his passion for environmental stewardship. Before Creative Energies, Rusty worked for five years in the related field of energy efficiency, designing and installing mechanical systems to cover swimming pools. Born in Ft. Collins, Colorado, but raised in New England, Rusty moved West to pursue a summer job fighting wildland fire. He spent the next four years on a hotshot crew chasing fires all across the West. His love of high mountains and wild and scenic rivers has kept him in Idaho, where he now lives with his wife, Anna, and their son, Frank, along with a small herd of pets. more...

  • Eric Concannon

    Eric leads Technical Sales for our Lander, WY office and is a NABCEP Certified PV technical sales professional. Before working with Creative Energies, Eric gained 6 years of experience engineering net-zero energy buildings and high energy intensity buildings like laboratories and data centers. He is a passionate advocate for reducing the energy footprint of buildings. Eric has also worked as an outdoor educator teaching about leadership, birds, and ecology. Eric worked for the Integral Group, NOLS, Humboldt State University, the Lindsay Wildlife Museum, the Alabama Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, the California Academy of Sciences, the California Energy Commission, and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. He holds degrees from the University of California, Davis in Mechanical Engineering (focused energy systems) and Environmental Policy (energy policy). In his spare time, Eric enjoys his family, adventure racing, orienteering, roleplaying games, birding and basketball. more...

  • Latane Frank

    Latane (Lat-knee) oversees all of our installations as the Operations Manager. He has been managing building projects in the Northern Rockies for close to 10 years. Latane studied solar energy systems at Solar Energy International. No system is too big or too small for him, he enjoys the unique challenges of remote off-grid systems and the complexity of building large(100+ kW) ground mounts. Before working with Creative Energies he was Facilities Manager for the National Outdoor Leadership School's Rocky Mountain Branch, where he coordinated numerous construction and maintenance projects at the Lander and Boulder, WY facilities, and the Vernal, UT river base. Latane lives in Lander, WY in a solar powered studio apartment with his two sons, Oliver and Mawson.   • Scott Jones

    Scott Jones provides technical sales in the Salt Lake City office and works closely with the University of Utah, Utah Clean Energy and the Sierra Club to support our Community Solar Programs. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Utah and completed his Master of Business Administration degree in 2013 with emphases in financial analysis, leadership and strategy. Scott is thrilled to leverage his MBA skills to custom design solar projects that maximize value for his clients. Before working with Creative Energies, Scott enjoyed a 15-year career as a restaurateur, opening four distinct concepts and winning multiple Best of Utah awards. He held titles of General Manager, Partner and Chef and has served as a Business Consultant to local restaurants and craft breweries. Scott moved to Salt Lake City in 1995 and lives in the Sugar House area with his wife, Sierra, and young daughters, Odessa and Hazel. In his spare time, Scott enjoys backcountry touring, camping and backpacking as well as river-running and fly-fishing from his hand-built dory.   • Dan Kilcoyne

    Dan Kilcoyne is our Master Electrician. Before working for Creative Energies, Dan worked as an electrician in Michigan. Dan, his wife, Nicci, and their four boys, Jordan, Noah, Judah and Aidan joined us from the Detroit Metro Area. He says that Lander, Wyoming suits him and his family better due to their love of the outdoors. When not working Dan, his family and their two dogs head to the Wind River Mountains where they love to go backpacking and fishing.   • AJ Linnell

    AJ Linnell started working as a project manager for Creative Energies in 2008, and is now a lead solar installer and third year licensed apprentice electrician. He is originally from Fort Collins, CO where he grew up in a passive solar house with a solar thermal water system. He lives with Erica, his wife, and their dog Rue in their Energy Star certified home in a LEED certified neighborhood in Victor, ID. AJ spent years as an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School and now spends his winters guiding and teaching avalanche courses for Yostmark Backcountry Tours. His passions include mountain biking, seeking out backcountry adventure on skis or a splitboard, and his family. more...

  • Cheryl Robins

    Cheryl Robins is our office manager. Before working for Creative Energies, Cheryl worked as a financial analyst for an accountant in Arizona. Cheryl moved to Lander about a year and a half ago with her husband, Dave. She has two daughters, Morgan and Emilee, that keep them busy with their many activities. Cheryl and her family love the outdoors and look forward to enjoying all Wyoming and the surrounding areas have to offer. more...

  • Phil Schneider

    Phil Schneider is a system engineer at Creative Energies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University. He has been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Certified Solar PV Installer. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, he now lives in Lander, Wyoming with his wife Blair, little girl Isabel and baby Sylvia. Phil served as a NOLS instructor and guided backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing, caving and canyons from Alaska to Chile. He enjoys working on his house, cycling, paragliding and playing ultimate Frisbee. more...

  • Luke Stacy

    Luke Stacy works as a PV and wind installer and is based in the Lander, Wyoming office. In 2010, Luke worked with Creative Energies during a college summer break. The experience offered him extensive installation experience on projects ranging from 4kW-200kW and cemented his commitment to pursuing a career in the solar industry after graduation. In the spring of 2011 he graduated from Wittenberg University and began working with a solar project developer in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the project management team that designed and constructed projects up to 1 MegaWatt in central Ohio. Luke has also studied renewable energy at Solar Energy International. Now, working with Creative Energies in Lander, Luke enjoys working for a sustainably driven company that values stewardship of its customers and the environment.
